14 Days of Prayer for Redeemer - Day # 2 - The Gospel Lived

Day # 2 - God, may Redeemer Church be a community of people who live the Gospel of the Kingdom.  May it permeate through our lives, families, professions, social relationships, and all that we do.

Colossians 3:12 Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, 13 bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. 14 And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. 15 And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. 16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. 17 And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

How does your job live the Gospel of the Kingdom?  As a lawyer, businessman/buisnesswoman, doctor, teacher, et Al., how does what you do display the beautiful truth of the Gospel?  I pray that at Redeemer Church, we will redeem our professions for God's glory.

I had a great lunch yesterday with a medical school student who loves God and wants to serve Him with all of his life.  Our conversation turned to a doctor's call to heal.  We talked about how doctors get to give a small picture of the Gospel as they redeem their patients from the pain of a sin infected world.  God made creation perfect and our (mankind's) sin brought disease, pain, death and creation fell.  Jesus would heal people as a sign of God's created order and a hope for future redemption.

Each day, doctor's who have accepted the work of Christ, get to give a glimpse of the future perfection and glory of the Kingdom of God.  Lawyers get to show the Gospel through working for justice and mercy.  People in business get to deal fairly with customers and treat their workers with dignity and kindness.  How we function in our professions is a testimony of God's goodness and salvation found in Jesus Christ.

At Redeemer, I pray that we will encourage each other to live the Gospel.  I pray for a special focus on Gospel-centered parenting.  May we raise our children to love the Gospel, to repent from sin, and see their worth in the love expressed on the Cross.

Yesterday, we prayed that we would proclaim the Gospel of the Kingdom.  Today, may we be bound by our lips to live, in every aspect of our lives, redeemed by the Gospel.

Grace & Peace
